Isabella Mariana

We selected this work by Brazil-based photography student Isabella Mariana from her submission to “Autorretrato”, our call for submissions themed around self-portraits.

This double exposure was an immediate favourite, from the muted colours to the harsh blackness of the tree branches and the way her shoulders are disappearing, we love everything about it.

I’m based in Paraná – Brazil. I graduated in Technology in Photography at Universidade Tuiuti do Paraná and I am currently doing a post-graduate course in Photography and Moving Image at Universidade Positivo.
I take inspiration from everything around me, but my main source is looking at other photographers’ works. Also I get inspired by reading, watching films, music videos and illustrations.
My work is mainly conceptual; manipulated portraits and self-portraits. I like to transmit silence, emotions and insight in my self-portraits. I am also beginning to work with fashion mixed with fantasy, genres inspired by Miss Aniela.
