In Triangular Fields – Charles Swain

‘In Triangular Fields’ takes its name from a passage in a book by early-feminist and rural fantasist Sylvia Townsend Warner. It explores, through processed 35mm film, the psychedelic and ontological potential and charge in the hills and ancient places of northern Britain and the English hinterlands.

The work presents new views of  a deeply striated landscape through the lens of psychogeography, psychedelia and forgotten lore. Like the character in Warner’s novel, the places depicted are overlaid and submersed in memories, joys, fears, romances and melancholies, yet often fall to the periphery of our vision.”

I am a photographer and visual artist from the East Midlands in the UK. A focus of my work is presenting the unseen and re-presenting what was (is) important.
